First Practical RaTexT Workshops Held in South Africa.

We are excited to announce the successful completion of the first practical RaTexT workshops in South Africa, with colleagues from the University of South Africa working with the team of Prof. Nyangiwe Nkululeko, marking a significant milestone in tick resistance monitoring across the African continent.

Advancing Tick Resistance Detection.
These hands-on workshops brought together veterinary researchers, livestock health professionals, and parasitology experts to learn the practical application of RaTexT bioassays for detecting acaricide resistance in tick populations. Participants gained direct experience with our resistance testing systems, including protocols for deltamethrin.

Workshop Highlights.
The training sessions covered: Proper handling and preparation of RaTexT bioassay kits. Tick collection and processing techniques. Reading and interpreting resistance test results. Data recording and resistance monitoring protocols. Integration of results into farm management decisions.

Impact on Livestock Health.
With tick-borne diseases posing significant challenges to livestock production in South Africa, these workshops equip professionals with the tools needed to make informed decisions about acaricide selection and rotation strategies. Early detection of resistance helps preserve the efficacy of available treatments and supports sustainable tick control programs.

Looking Forward.
The success of these initial workshops paves the way for expanded training programs across the region. We remain committed to supporting the veterinary and research communities with both high-quality diagnostic tools and the knowledge needed to use them effectively.
