About TBD-I
Our Mission. TBD International provides expert consultations on ticks and tick-borne diseases of veterinary and medical importance to academic institutions, government agencies, and pharmaceutical companies worldwide.
Who We Are. Founded in 2014 and based in the Netherlands, with laboratory facilities in Amsterdam and field operations in Brazil and East Africa. Our international team specialises in developing innovative tick control methods for livestock, companion animals, and humans to improve animal and human health worldwide. Our laboratory produces a comprehensive range of bioassays for acaricide resistance testing and in vitro feeding systems for ticks, serving the global research community to conduct critical studies on tick biology, pathogen transmission, and acaricide efficacy under controlled conditions.
Leadership & Expertise. Professor Frans Jongejan, PhD., is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of TBD-I. He brings over four decades of specialised expertise in veterinary parasitology, with particular focus on ticks and tick-borne diseases, combining academic endeavours and international development work with innovative commercial applications. He holds an Extraordinary Professorship at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases, University of Pretoria, South Africa and is a Visiting Professor, Institute of Veterinary Clinical Services, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan.
Innovation.TBD-I holds the international patent on RaTexT: a novel bioassay for determining acaricide resistance by ticks (Patent number: 2036918, 2024).
